Why is art and Imagination so important for our youth?

Dark Star Universe is an independent arts & media organization with a focus on education through science fiction. Our projects are geared toward building dioramas and customized models that promote community building and creating narratives of black self-determination for youth. It is our intention to create arts media that will encourage young people to use their imagination in finding creative ways to upcycle e-waste and other recycled materials into amazing works of art.

We are thrilled and honored to announce that on Saturday, March 24th 10am -6pm, Dark Star Universe will be a part of the Oakland Museum of California's "Respect' Hip-Hop Style & Wisdom" Exhibition.

A celebration of 50 years of Hip Hop culture and the rich legacy of the Bay Area's Hip Hop Scene.

Please join us Saturday 12-2pm at the  Oakland Museum of California to talk with the creators and lean more about Dark Star Universe.

Dark Star Universe is showcasing one of our signature upcycled diorama pieces in the Oakland Museum exhibition(In the section highlighting Afrofuturism). The diorama highlights some of the prominent characters featured in our stop motion animation film project (which is in the works). We are excited to share with you a collaborative installation piece created by Korise Jubert of TownFuturist Media and Refa One. This is a great opportunity for the viewers to see first hand how our artists team upcycles e-waste and other materials to create a world of fantasy and vision portraying Black self determining narratives of the future that will positively impact the minds of the youth.
